Back in 2020 I decided to dive into the world of side hustles. I was looking to make extra money in order to pay off my student loans and car loan.
I ended up expanding my Etsy store, opening another Etsy store, selling shirts on Amazon merch and selling things online via Mercari.
To be honest, I was slightly obsessive over growing all these income sources in 2020. I think in the back of my head I was hoping to be one of those individuals whose side hustle grows into their main hustle.
I still stand by that being a wild idea and misplaced. I have no desire to work more and nearly all of these side hustles required a lot of work.
ETSY STORE 1: BACHELORETTE & DRINKING GAMES
This is going to be the only side hustle I have going forward because it is less time intensive.
In 2020 one of my Holiday games actually got a “best sellers” tag and that same game got the tag again this year. I made over $2.5K on that game alone this year.
TOTAL ‘ETSY STORE 1’ 2021 SIDE HUSTLE INCOME: $5,295.64
ETSY STORE 2: T-SHIRTS
Halfway throughout this year I decided to close down this shop. To be honest, I was just over it.
TOTAL ‘ETSY STORE 2’ 2021 SIDE HUSTLE INCOME: $946.52
AMAZON MERCH
Lol another waste of time. I spent so much time and gave so much energy to switching out designs and even posting pins on Pinterest. Yikes.
I should have been using that time to become better at Python. Last year I made $73.88 off Amazon and this year that number more than doubled.
Running this Amazon store was a complete waste of my time though, and I will no longer be operating this store going forward.
TOTAL AMAZON 2021 SIDE HUSTLE INCOME: $168.72
ZAZZLE:
Zazzle is a great place to try out designs because it is a low barrier to entry but they suck. You will not get a payout until you make $150 in royalties. This means I will more than likely see this check years from now.
TOTAL Zazzle SIDE HUSTLE INCOME: $32.51
To Sum It Up
Last year in 2020 I made $2,733.74 (net) from my side hustles. This year (2021) I ended up netting $6,443.39 after taxes and expenses.
Running these side hustles was an interesting experience indeed. I am not going to be putting any effort into side hustles come 2022. I will keep my printables Etsy shop going because that is low maintenance, but I am shutting everything else down.
I want to focus on growing my career and putting more effort towards an early retirement so that will be my main priority moving forward.
