2021 Was Eye-Opening, 2022 Will Be…

Expensive. That is the word for 2022. I first started tracking my yearly goals in 2020 and I have enjoyed many aspects of this process.

In 2020 I set out to accomplish 20 goals and in 2021 I set out to do 10. For this year, I have 5 core goals I am hoping to accomplish. I hope that writing this down will help me with tracking and accountability.

Here goes.

FINANCIAL GOALS:

I really only have one financial goal for this year. Next year my goal is to focus on building my Emergency fund and maxing out my retirement accounts. This year I need to be realistic with the funds I have because I have A LOT OF SHIT to pay for.

1. PAY OFF MY CAR LOAN

I have to constantly remind myself that my goal should NOT be “freedom from debt”.

As of the publication of this article, I have $5,379.52 left to pay on my loan. My goal is to have this paid off by the end of 2022.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

2. SQL CERTIFICATION

Last year I did several things to prepare for my SQL certification. I signed up for classes on LinkedIn, SQLLearn, Udemy, and much more. Now I need to take the step to register for my test sometime this year!

I am honestly thinking I should just pay/sign up for a test date. Maybe this is the fire I need to actually complete this.

3. COMPLETE MY DUOLINGO COURSE

I have had DuoLingo installed on my phone since 2017…

Distraction primarily has been the cause of delays with this goal. However, for 2022, my goal is to finally complete my Spanish course and also learn a few basics in Mandarin.

Wish me luck.

PHYSICAL GOALS

4. GET To My Goal Weight Range

Like a lot of people, this has been an “on-again/off-again”…goal? I could probably go on for paragraphs about my many many many attempts at weight loss but I do not have the time.

My plan for 2022 is to lower my carb intake and get to a weight range between 150-160lbs.

5. COMPLETE BRIGHT ANGEL TRAIL

Originally, I had planned to hike the Bright Angel Trail in October 2021, but I ended up skipping it.

I am instead going to plan to do this hike sometime in April 2022.

Thoughts On 2022 Goals

It feels strange to only have five goals listed. Especially when I consider that I only have one “main” financial goal for the year. I feel like although I have the goal of paying off my car loan, this doesn’t really paint an accurate financial picture. I would love to pay off my car loan and technically I am on the hook to pay $404.65 each month to Honda. However, I have approximately $40,000 worth of things to pay for in addition to my “regular life” in 2022. So maybe I should add that in as well.

Also looking at this list gives me some other thoughts to consider. For example, some of these goals could be accomplished prior to the end of the year… so what will I do then?

Replace them with other goals? I do not know.

Inspiration may come to me later but right now this is where I am at.
